Our Beginnings

On April 8, 1956, the H.W. Miller Memorial Sanitarium and Hospital was formally opened to the public as a 20-bed capacity one doctor hospital with a skeleton working force of 16, and Dr. Francisco T. Geslani as the first Medical Director.

Under the prospering hand of God, the hospital grew and it was necessary to add a new wing to it to accommodate its increasing patronage.

The demand of the community for bigger and better facilities necessitated the expansion of the hospital's right wing in 1964.

With the physical expansion, the clinical facilities and personnel also enlarged accordingly. This time the Food Service was opened.

In August, 1970, Dr. Manuel J. Tornilla, Jr., was appointed Medical Director/President, up to the present time.

The entire original building which was mostly of light materials was torn down and a new solid concrete structure was constructed.

More and more rooms were added, improvements of the Business Office, the Medical Records Section, the Emergency Room, the expansion of the Dining room, the Service Counter, the Canteen, the relocation of the Physical Therapy department to a more spacious, convenient and practical place, the renovation of the Mary Miller Hall, the construction of the 3-storey Medical Staff house, the widening of the ground lobby and the hallway, and many, many more improvements signified progress.

The history of this hospital is not complete without mentioning Dr. H. W. Miller in whose name and memory this hospital is named. After his death, MEMORIAL was added thus H.W. Miller Memorial Sanitarium and Hospital is from then-on, the official name of this hospital.

Today, after having undergone a face-lifting in its physical structure, the hospital now proudly offers an ever-improving Medical Care Service in a modern 60-bed capacity, two storey building. H.W. Miller Memorial Sanitarium and Hospital firmly stands with its total commitment - "Dedicated to the Total Care of the Sick."
